Hands down the winner for best soundtrack at Milan Fashion Week. Rock on JV!
Big fan of the use of grey too, my favorite color for all seasons.

Style Icon: Ryan Gosling

Arguably the best dressed man in Hollywood right now, Ryan Gosling makes it look easier and easier each time he steps on the Red Carpet. His style is defined by impeccably tailored suits and his ability to wear a mix of staple pieces along with bold patterns. The 30 year old Canadian who started acting at age 12 has done a great job making his way from supporting roles like that which he played in Remember the Titans to leading man in his best known work The Notebook. This summer he stars alongside Steve Carell in Crazy, Stupid Love, a typical rom-com with a solid cast, story line and what, from the trailer, looks like pretty serious style. One of my favorite looks of the year was the image above where he wore an awesome statement tux in a pale blue on the red carpet and undoubtedly made all of the black and white, play it by the book guys (not that there is anything wrong with keeping it classic, if you do it correctly) look like they were going to high school prom. Big fan of the shawl collar and the calculated scruff too. Bravo! I wouldn’t recommend the look for everyone but if you do want to take a bit of a risk and try something different go for a midnight blue tux for the next black tie event you have to go to. Keep everything else classic, I guarantee people will notice. I’m going to give Mr. Gosling the benefit of the doubt and assume he doesn’t have a stylist because if he did that would be the disappointment of the year for me. With that assumption in mind Ryan Gosling is one of our Style Icons. The dude has got some serious swagger.

John Varvatos: “Monkey On My Back” and F/W 2011

There are two videos I want to share with you both coming from a major style icon and my favorite designer, John Varvatos. The first video is from the Spring 2011 ad campaign featuring Dave Matthews. The second is the show JV put together for his F/W collection that he showed in Milan just a few weeks ago. The show of course in the true rock & roll meets runway style that has been a staple of his design for a decade now. Rock on!

The Sartorialist

A fashion icon – The Sartorialist – is the feature of a new documentary short called “Intel Visual Life – The Sartorialist”. The video is on youtube and on http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com and now the most recent post on Inside Thread. The man is a legend and has one of the greatest eyes in the fashion world today. He is an idol of mine and his insight is completely invaluable. If I could end up half the man Scott Schuman is I would be sincerely happy. Enjoy!

Summer Style Icon: JFK

As the summer winds down, we though it would be nice to take a look at one of the masters of summer style. Here at Inside Thread, we’re fond of those with a strong personal style, and President John F. Kennedy certainly had that. Sack suits, made just a little wide to accommodate his back brace, canvas sneakers, crewneck sweatshirts, and the constant aura of having just left the beach made Jack Kennedy one of our best styled leaders ever. His dress has found resurgence in popularity in recent years, as Americans have again become infatuated with young politicos and their families, but no text or single image can capture Kennedy’s style. Shot’s of him sailing or laying football as a teen show that even then he was dressed a bit better than the rest; chino’s pressed (or wrinkled) just right, khaki shorts with crewnecks for sailing, and beautiful suits for the work day. He was always dressed to impress, and that’s something we really appreciate.
